A solid and thrilling read but not exactly what I was hoping for

MY REVIEW
This was a solid read with characters you can empathize with. The pace is a little slow but it creates a thrilling read. Every step is one step closer to the inevitable. Can they survive? Lev and Kat’s passion is off the charts. The story is told in dual POV. It is mafia romance but also, in its own way, secret baby romance as well. This creates a delicious story with tons of angst and dread. Loyalties are tested and new bonds are formed throughout the book. The suspense mounts with every chapter. Kat’s history has created a strong survivor in her that I couldn’t help but envy and root for. When Lev falls for her, she becomes his only weakness. Lev is your regular, sexy, untouchable and deadly mafioso. When his sights are set on Katerina, all of that changes and a passionate, caring and loyal man emerges. I loved the care he had with Kat. When I heard these two authors were co-authoring a book, I was ecstatic! I ADORE both authors work and they both excel in mafia and dark romance. I was ready for this but it didn't reach my expectation. The mafia portion is low-key and, for me, there reunion after so long seems a little to seamless and easy. This book ended on a cliff-hanger and I am excited to see where the second book is headed. I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
