Meet the only con man who has ever stole my heart

She thought I was handing her my heart. What I really gave her was a hand grenade set to blow her world apart.
Ours wasn’t your typical love story. Ours involved lies. A lot of lies. So many that at some point, I lost track of which ones were mine and which were hers.
Falling in love with her was never part of the plan, not that I had a choice in the matter. From the moment we met, she captivated me, making me forget who I was and why I was pulling this job in the first place. I would have cut out my heart and begged her to take it if she hadn’t already stolen it, claiming it for her own. It no longer mattered who was conning whom. She made me believe the impossible—that we could be happy together.
I should have known better. Con men don’t get happy endings.
It was always going to end this way. I was going to break her heart in the cruelest way possible, leaving her no choice but to hate me. And that’s what I did, shattering my own in the process. I stayed away as long as I could, but a man can only live without his heart for so long. Now I’m determined to get her back and convince her the love we shared was real. But could she ever love a professional liar?

MY REVIEW
“This woman is dangerous. Here I am telling her about my demons and instead of running in the opposite direction, she wants to play with them.”
This book is captivating. The relationship building between Nyla and Memphis is beautifully done. You can see and feel it blossoming. The trust builds right before your eyes while their relationship and interactions give you all the feels. You’ll find yourself smiling and swooning. They really are that great together. These characters are friendly, fun and so down-to-earth. Completely relatable.
“A good guy would do the right thing and walk away. But I’m not a good guy. I’m as bad as they come.”
Memphis has confidence in spades but I liked seeing him insecure and vulnerable. We get to see how he feels out of place, for once in his life, with Nyla and her friends. He wants to fit in and to feel like he belongs. This scene is so real and touching.
I couldn’t help but root for Memphis during his successes and hurt alongside him during his failures.
The characters are heartbreakingly real and fleshed out.
Memphis’s brother, Mike? GAH!!! He is the MOST DETESTABLE character EVER!!
I would have like to see is some sort of resolution between Nyla and her uncle. As it stands, it feels a little unfinished. I also found the pace was slow in the beginning. Be assured it does not last for long and it's all pertinent background information that is required for the story that is about to unfold. Though I believe some of it would’ve been suited to a prelude novella or something of the sort, I understand an appreciate the author’s reasons behind making this one whole book.
That aside, this book has a phenomenal ending that put a huge smile on my face. Bravo!!!
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

ABOUT SHAY
Shay Stone started her writing career after a car accident left her unable to read or look at a computer. Ironic, right? Many years, and hours of vision therapy later, and voila! she wrote her first book. She lives in Georgia with her four dogs and one cat that thinks he is a dog. If you happen to be driving around Atlanta, there is a good chance you will see her dancing in her car and singing (poorly) to some ‘80s tune. She has no shame.
Her passions include writing and traveling. She writes strong women with a bit of attitude, and flawed men that you can’t help but fall in love with to create that once in a lifetime love one page at a time. The Rise to Fame and The Cost of Fame complete her first contemporary romance duet, but the characters you love will be popping up in future novels.
