MY REVIEW

Mary MacCaslin, aka Em, is a music prodigy. She has traveled abroad to study with master teachers and took part in elite competitions. She now has a full scholarship to Juilliard to look forward to.

In two weeks, she will become an ordinary student. But tonight, she lies to her father and goes to a field party with her best friend Zoe.

The party starts off well with a few tasty alcohol drinks and her first kiss with, Michael, MacCarron, her childhood crush and next-door neighbour. Every childhood memory she has includes him. So, when he has to start the party and tells her to wait, she does. And when her best friend leaves her to get high, she is ok with that too.

But Em is left alone the rest of the night. In the light of day, her dreams and her life change-irrevocably. Can she ever forgive her friends for such a huge betrayal and for destroying her life as she knew it?

Heartbreaking and intense, this book captivated me.

The journey Em goes through is difficult. She must learn to forgive and let go to move on. The 180 her character transforms into is shocking but somewhat understandable. Her anger in the beginning is as well.

Michael is the strong, reliable type and I enjoyed his character. From the beginning we could see the remorse he felt. Em’s forgiveness of him is gradual and real.

The forgiveness of her best friend, Zoe, seemed a little side-lined. For me, this was equally as important to Em’s overall well being. Although the forgiveness is understood, it was just really understated.

The scene where “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” was played for Michael’s father, I HAD to listen to the song. I knew it would be amazing and the edition I heard was so exceptional, so touching, that it added that much more to this poignant scene.

Even through the twists and turns I came so close to finding out what happened and why that night.

This book has so many feels and will touch even the coldest of hearts.

The ending has me excited for more. I loved these characters and the story. I was invested and engaged until the very end. This is one to put on your must-read list. One-click this baby!

I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
